Family Visa FAQ

Can my spouse work in Indonesia on a dependent visa (E31B)?

No. The E31B dependent visa does not permit employment in Indonesia. Your spouse can live with you but cannot work for an Indonesian company or earn Indonesian income. If your spouse wants to work, they would need their own Work KITAS (E23) sponsored by an employer, or you could set up a PT PMA company and apply for an Investor KITAS (E28A).

Marriage certificates in languages other than English or Indonesian must be translated into Bahasa Indonesia by a sworn translator. We can guide you to qualified sworn translators in Bali. If your marriage was conducted outside Indonesia, you may also need proof of registration at the Indonesian Mission or Embassy in the country where you were married.

For E31B and E31E visas, the primary visa holder’s KITAS must be approved and active before dependent visa applications can be submitted. However, we can prepare all documentation in advance so dependent visas are submitted immediately after the primary KITAS is approved, minimizing the gap.

Dependent visas (E31B and E31E) are tied to the primary KITAS holder’s visa. If the primary visa expires or is cancelled, dependent visas become invalid. The primary holder must renew their KITAS before or at the same time as dependent renewals. We coordinate all family renewals together to avoid any gaps.

Once your child turns 18, they are no longer eligible for the E31E dependent visa. They will need to apply for their own visa based on their circumstances—such as a student visa, tourist visa, or if they’re working, a Work KITAS. We help families plan for this transition well in advance.

Yes. Children on E31E dependent visas can attend international schools and some local schools in Indonesia. Bali has many excellent international schools. The dependent visa provides the legal basis for school enrollment.

All family visa types (E31A, E31B, E31E) cost the same:
1-year visa: 11,000,000 IDR per person
2-year visa: 15,000,000 IDR per person
All prices include e-Visa, government tax, agent fee, and sponsorship. No hidden fees. Contact us about bundle pricing for multiple family members.

If you plan to live in Indonesia long-term with your Indonesian spouse, the E31A is strongly recommended over tourist visas. The E31A gives you 1-2 years of stay, provides a path to permanent residence (KITAP), and recognizes your family status officially. Tourist visas require constant extensions, don’t acknowledge your marital status, and limit you to 180 days maximum.
